Concurso Arquine No. 26  |  Pabellón Mextrópoli 2024
Project: 2024

The pavilion is the physical demonstration of a perfect juxtaposition of physical and immaterial elements which, through the tectonics of its architecture, result in a space entirely conceived for the user, establishing as its central concept the simple act of “dwelling.” Within the timeframe of the festival, the space will become a place of rest for visitors after a sunny Sunday afternoon stroll. At the same time, it serves as a meeting point within the Alameda, while inside it becomes a space of serenity amid the bustle of the densely populated Mexico City and the environment in which it unfolds, Alameda Central being one of the most visited public spaces by the city’s residents.
The materiality of the pavilion focuses mainly on readily accessible materials which, in addition to carrying historical and cultural significance in the annals of Mexico’s history, also encourage local commerce through the participation of artisans in the weaving of petate, which will be used to cover the pavilion’s façade and the hammocks.
At the closure of the festival, the pavilion is designed for easy disassembly and full reuse, made possible by its construction system and the materials employed. This will allow visitors, should they wish, to take home any element that once formed part of that Descanso Dominical.
